Module Description

Stress has been called “the disease of 21st century”. It has tremendous impact no matter on individual’s betterment or the society. How to tackle it in a right way or even convert a negative stress into a positive one is a great and valuable challenge in contemporary society. This module aims to explore the interaction of stress and environment on individual and group wellbeing, facilitate the awareness towards stress and comprehend others’ behaviour. Moreover, this module also covers the scientific foundation of stress including its nature, causes, symptoms and consequences together with the physiological, psychological and sociological effects. In addition, this module puts the focus upon the positive and constructive intervention and attitudes for managing stress. Besides the theories, tutorial and practicum will be included to strengthen the cognitive learning.

Module Intended Learning Outcomes (MILO)

Upon completion of this module, students should be able to: 
a. Assess a holistic model of stress, health and wellness; 
b. Distinguish the multi-dimension effect of stress that incorporates the interplay of physiology, psychology, culture and environment on individual and society’s wellbeing;
c. Apply the science and technology of stress management in a variety of settings; 
d. Critically evaluate how different stress-related models, theories and intervention are relevant to our daily life.
