Module Description

From Big Data technology to AI and machine learning, from cloud computing to blockchain, these rapidly changing information technologies are reshaping our society. This module provides a broad overview of contemporary information technologies from a layperson’s perspective, and their impact on our everyday life. Apart from providing a basic understanding of the technologies and their principles, the module also discusses their historical backgrounds, potential applications, and their social, security and ethical concerns.

Module Intended Learning Outcomes (MILO)

Upon completion of this module, students should be able to: 
a. identify the causes and effects of contemporary information technologies that are revolutionizing our society; 
b. analyse contemporary IT tools and methodologies for decision making in organization level and their application areas; 
c. describe the basic IT infrastructure and requirements for enabling contemporary IT systems; and
d. describe the procedure and methodology for adopting contemporary information technologies in organizations.
