With a focus on global citizenship in an ever-changing world of intercultural translation, this module is designed to prepare students to become professional cultural mediators by exploring language and communication skills and issues across domains, including media, science, law, literature, and religion. It also helps students familiarize themselves with the challenges and opportunities of cultural translation in a global context through bilingual resources, in-class discussions and debates, collaborative translation projects, and digital tools.
Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:
a. understand the interconnection between global citizenship and translation professionalism
b. identify the significant role of translation in the transmission of texts and ideas in a global context
c. examine transcultural interaction through translation activities in different domains
d. demonstrate innovative translation strategies and analytical skills applicable to cultural mediation
e. explore opportunities for cross-cultural exchange in the 21st century with translation concepts and theories
