Module Description

This module is designed with a human lens to explore data and AI applications in social and business context, and the imperative to equip students in Data Literacy for the future of work, relevant to all disciplines of study. The module examines the crucial role of data in today’s digital economy and the significance of data and AI driven transformation and value creation in society, data monetization in business, and human-machine collaboration in the transforming world of work. The module equips students in data mindset, develops critical thinking in analytics, inspires creativity through reframing of problems from insights, fosters data-centric decisions, strengthens communication through data storytelling, and instills data ethics for sustainable development.

The module introduces the key concepts of data literacy and practices in the organizational context. The module does not require any technical background as data science or machine learning. Throughout the module, students will engage in experiential learning with the use of personal data stories, case studies, Data Literacy challenge, data ethics debates, case sharing from guest speakers of business data users and organization visits on data-driven transformation in society and business.

Module Intended Learning Outcomes (MILO)

Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:

a. Examine the meanings and significance of data in human civilization by exploring its history and development. Understand the crucial role of data in today’s digital economy as a strategic asset and explore how data-powered transformation and innovation create value for society.

b. Explore the application of data and AI in digital and social transformation, and data monetization in business. Examine the connections between the data literacy imperative and the transforming world of work to harness the full potential of human machine collaboration in the future of work.

c. Develop data mindset and Future Skills to address societal and business challenges in the digital era. Understand the organizational context in change management to fully leverage data and AI adoption. Acquire know-how in navigating and leading change in data driven organization including the role of leadership, culture and people in data literacy empowerment to unlock the value of data.

d. Understand the critical role of data ethics and governance in data management. Embed ethical and responsible data governance standard for sustainable data and AI development. Build resilience and growth mindset for flexibility and adaptiveness in the future of work.
