Module Description

This Module helps students prepare themselves for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Exam. It assists students to familiarize themselves with the format of the exam and practise for improvement. Studying the required language skills tested in the exam is also the focus of this Module.

Module Intended Learning Outcomes (MILO)

Upon completion of this module, students should be able to: 
a. listen for general and specific information;
b. read for general and specific information;
c. write a well-structured essay;
d. use effective verbal and non-verbal skills.

2. Introduction and practice of reading skills

2.5 Distinguishing facts from arguments
2.6 Identifying opinions and attitudes
2.7 Inferring and deducing meaning

3. Introduction and practice of writing skills

3.1 Identifying task genres
3.2 Developing topic sentences and supporting sentences
3.3 Describing facts, figures, graphs and a process
3.4 Presenting main and supporting arguments

4. Introduction and practice of speaking skills

4.1 Developing fluency and coherence
4.2 Expressing personal opinions and ideas
4.3 Participating actively in discussion
