On behalf of the Common Core Curriculum Office (CCCO), I extend a warm welcome to you as you embark on your educational journey at HSUHK.
The Common Core Curriculum is an important pillar of HSUHK’s “Liberal + Professional” education model. It serves as a cornerstone for cultivating our students to become responsible global citizens and leaders equipped with transdisciplinary knowledge and transferrable skills to address the opportunities and challenges in the 21st century.
Liberal education, in its long historical trajectory, has proceeded from and for freedom. The purpose of liberal education is entrenched as the pursuit of human excellence, both in private – excellence of the man as man – and in public – excellence of the man as a citizen. It regards the man as an end, not as a means to other ends. This pursuit of human excellence is an ongoing journey that requires freedom, continuous learning, and engagement with the world around us.
Drawing on Amartya Sen’s Capability Approach on promoting freedom, we designed the FuturEdge Programme with the vision to enhance the agency of HSUHK students by developing their intellectual breadth, critical mind, humanity and positive attitude, while equipping them with the skills and will to take meaningful actions. We believe in the possibility and ability of students in striving for their well-being, embracing not only the choice of doing but more importantly the potential of achieving.
The launch of the FuturEdge Programme exemplifies our commitment to the continuous enhancement of the Common Core Curriculum, and our belief in the possibility of moral education through knowledge. While thinking responsibly necessitates a deep understanding of the societal, national and global context that goes beyond self-interest, acting responsibly requires informed actions and divergent thinking that drive new insights, strategies and solutions benefiting the society and the world. Our curriculum encompasses the essential training necessary to the cultivation of these critical skills and attributes, empowering our students to navigate through diverse perspectives, engage in constructive dialogues, and embrace ethical principles in their personal and professional lives.
At the Common Core Curriculum Office, we are dedicated to supporting your growth into a well-rounded and confident individual, equipped with the readiness and resilience to embrace and overcome the challenges of your future. We invite you to engage with us, explore our curriculum and resources, and make the most of your university experience.
