The common core module in National Education and National Security Education is designed to introduce students with basic knowledge to modern China, the Chinese Constitution, Basic Law and National Security Law.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the common core module of National Education and National Security Education, students should be able to:   

  • Describe and discuss the legal concepts of the Chinese Constitution, Basic Law, and National Security Law as well as the legal status of Hong Kong;
  • Analyze various daily life scenarios to identify relevant legal principles in decision making;
  • Recognize the implications and analyze the legal interests of various parties concerned for decision making; and
  • Understand the scope of application of the National Security Law under the legal, political, economic, social and/or cultural context of Hong Kong.

National Education and National Security Education Requirement & Module

All Year 1 entrants admitted in AY 2025/26 or after, all Year 2 entrants admitted in AY 2026/27 or after, all Year 3 entrants admitted in AY 2027/28 or after, and all UG students admitted from 2028/29 onwards are required to pass the following non-credit bearing online module on National Education and National Security Education:

  • NSL1000 National Education and National Security Education

Enrollment Arrangement

The module adopts a self-directed learning approach, allowing students to engage with the online materials and activities at their own pace. Students may enroll in the module on OpenLearn themselves anytime within their study period. To fulfill the module requirement, students must complete all the learning components and obtain a passing score for the final examination on OpenLearn.

The module fulfillment status will be updated three times each academic year. Students who wish to have their fulfilment status reflected in a particular semester or who intend to apply for graduation must observe the following module completion* deadlines.
